Annapurna Region
Annapurna
It stretches from lush, subtropical valleys filled with rice terraces and rhododendron forests to stark, high-altitude deserts and glaciated peaks. At its heart rises the Annapurna Massif, a cluster of towering mountains that includes Annapurna I (8,091 m)—the first 8,000-meter peak ever climbed.
The region is shaped by deep river gorges, especially the Kali Gandaki, one of the deepest in the world, cutting dramatically between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Villages along the trails reflect a rich mix of cultures—Gurung, Magar, Thakali, and Manangi—each with distinct traditions, architecture, and languages.
Overall, the Annapurna region is known not just for its mountains, but for its contrast—green to white, gentle to severe, human warmth set against immense natural power.
